We are excited to tell you about two upcoming hackathons we will be attending/sponsoring. These will take place on Oct 26-27 in Seattle, WA and on Nov 1-2 in Boulder, CO. What’s more, PLT LABS will be bringing their brand new, Wearable Concept 1 for folks to hack on.
Wearable Concept 1?
Oh wait, did we mention to y’all about the brand-spanking new, super groovy, Concept 1 wearable device from the PLT LABS?
PLT LABS?
Yeah, PLT LABS consists of our Innovation team as well as other key Plantronics associates, who are spearheading Plantronics research into wearable technology. Check out their website at pltlabs.com to learn more.
So anyway, the PLT LABS team have been busy at work in creating an exciting new wearable device, called the Wearable Concept 1, which is based on our popular Voyager Legend UC that you are all so familiar with. The PLT LABS team has taken the basic functionality of the Voyager Legend, (which includes detecting if the headset is on or off your head, and also if the headset is near or far from the PC) and added much, much more.
What new functionality does the Concept 1 have? Check it out!
• Real-Time device orientation data stream (Head Tracking)
• Free-fall detection
• Pedometer
• Tap detection
• Onboard MFi (Made For iOS) chip for data transmission over Bluetooth with iOS devices
Of course the most exciting thing to you, our most awesome developer, would be the MFi chip! The MFi chip allows you to integrate all this new functionality into your iPhone app! Having the ability to create headset-powered iPhone apps is something you have been asking for. We heard you loud and clear, and now with this concept device, you get that ability!
Now that you know about the Wearable Concept 1, I am sure you are asking, “Hey, how do I get a hold of one of these devices to hack on?”
Well, we are working hard to get these into developers’ hands through our website, and you can request one for yourself by signing up at this link http://pltlabs.com/sign-up/
In the meantime, we are bringing a box full of these Wearable Concept 1 devices to our next two hackathons! Yes, for those lucky hackers that will be at either the AT&T | SIC Mobile App Hackathon - Wearables in Seattle, WA or the Internet of Things Hackathon in Boulder, CO you will get the opportunity to use these devices in your project. Of course, being one of the very first non-Plantronics-employee developers to get access to this device is not a bad thing either!
So, what are you waiting for? If you are in Seattle or Boulder, sign up for the respective hackathons, as they are FREE! Also, we are giving out $500 gift card as the Plantronics prize for Seattle as well as $1,000, $500 and $300 gift cards for the Plantronics prize at Boulder.
